A backup is a promise. A restore is proof.

Start Monday with evidence, not a green checkmark: review a newly cataloged exploited vulnerability, put free AI-security training on your calendar, and plan one safe recovery test.
Threat watch: check your Atlassian installations
CISA added CVE-2026-21589 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on October 15. It concerns arbitrary file access in multiple Atlassian products, including affected Data Center installations of Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket. An unauthenticated attacker may access specific files inside the application’s web root.
Action: compare your exact product and version with the vendor advisory, assess internet exposure, and follow the applicable remediation and forensic-triage instructions. CISA’s retrieved catalog is version 2026.10.16; this is a recent alert, not a claim of a new October 18 disclosure. The catalog lists October 18 as its due date; organizations must check which directive requirements apply to them.

Opportunity desk: no verified open listing today
SAM.gov: a CNECTS IT-services lead appeared in search, but the official notice did not expose sufficient live detail to verify its solicitation status, amendments and response deadline. It is not presented here as an open bid. Official notice to recheck.
Virginia eVA: the public opportunities page could not be retrieved during this check. No open IT solicitation or deadline could be verified. This does not establish that no opportunities exist. eVA Business Opportunities.
One-minute IT lesson: make recovery measurable
A successful backup job and a successful recovery are different checks. With the system owner’s approval, restore a non-sensitive sample file into an isolated test location. Open it, check its contents, and record how long recovery took. Do not overwrite live data.
Two useful planning questions: How much recent work could we afford to lose? That informs the recovery point objective. How long could we tolerate the service being unavailable? That informs the recovery time objective. A sample-file test is a useful first step, not proof that an entire application can recover.
